Choose the Minecraft version
Start with the version your modpack or server actually uses.
- 02
Install matching Forge
Blood Magic’s official project currently targets Forge for its listed modern releases.
- 03
Add Blood Magic
For the GitHub route, download the official source branch and build it with Gradle; then place the generated normal JAR in your mods folder.
- 04
Add JEI
The project recommends Just Enough Items; it is especially useful because modpacks may alter recipes.

Back up before updates
When moving versions, back up the world and review changelogs before opening a long-running save.
Build from the official source.
GitHub provides the project source rather than a prebuilt release JAR. Download the 1.20.1 branch, extract it, run the Gradle build, then use the JAR created in build/libs/.
Older Blood Magic guides can describe different progression, recipes, or mechanics. Use them for concepts, not as guaranteed instructions for a modern 1.20.1 setup.
